Our story
Who is MPH United?
MPH stands for Michael Patrick Harding, our founder and president. The Harding family's container legacy began in 1946, when Michael's grandfather, Austin Harding, founded Clawson Tank and Equipment in Clawson, Michigan, building steel bulk tanks for the oil and automotive industries. In 1984, Michael and his family formed Clawson Container, manufacturing asset IBCs and rentals for the chemical, oil, and coatings industries. In 1996, Michael and his brother launched IBC North America, manufacturing blow-molded composite IBCs across three U.S. plants, and in 2000 Michael formed Clean Tide Container, recycling composite IBCs and drums and cleaning asset IBCs across five facilities. Over the years, Michael became well known in the agricultural chemical business, becoming what many called "the godfather of the AGCHEM IBC."
In 2005, Clawson Container's asset IBC manufacturing and rental fleet were sold to Snyder Industries. In 2010, Michael and his brother, Richard Harding, formed G. Phillips and Sons, recycling agricultural chemical containers across Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. In 2015, IBC North America and Clean Tide Container were sold to Mauser Packaging Group. Encouraged by many former customers to reenter the industry, Michael partnered with his son, David Harding — thus MPH United was born in 2020.
United stands for MPH uniting, through a series of alliances and equity partnerships, IBC manufacturers and regional recyclers with IBC end users. This unification has allowed MPH United to provide IBCs and IBC recycling to former and new customers quickly and in large volume. With 20+ facilities involved in short order (and growing) MPH has united the customer with IBC supply.
